California voters made history in 2018 by passing Proposition 12, sparing millions of hens, pigs, and calves from extreme confinement. It remains the strongest farm animal protection law ever enacted. Since then, other states have followed suit, building momentum toward a future free from cages and crates.

Now that progress is under attack. The federal EATS Act — recently rebranded as the so-called “Save Our Bacon Act” — would overturn these state laws and force animals back into the cruelest forms of factory farming. If it passes, decades of hard-won victories for animals could be erased overnight.

This cruel bill would erase years of work to reduce suffering and block future reforms for animals across the country.

Now is the moment to act. Advocates, policy experts, and grassroots supporters have already built strong coalitions that have slowed the bill’s momentum and rallied bipartisan opposition.
